Loudoun Academy

School: Loudoun Academy
Project: Creation of brochures for Stewart Travel – Francophone destinations
Level: Silver
Date: June 2023

This project involved a partnership with a well-known travel agent, Stewart Travel, which was developed with both S3 and S5/6 classes.

The S3 class researched and developed a set of brochures for the travel agent to give to customers, providing language and cultural guides to some of the most popular Francophone destinations. The S5/6 Travel and Tourism class contributed advice and guidance on content.

Stewart Travel supported the project throughout through visits, showcasing the end product in store and participating in careers events in schools. The school intends to build on this strong partnership by extended the project next year.

This submission from Loudoun Academy takes a really interesting and original approach to employability, managing to successfully combine employability, global citizenship and languages into a really engaging and inspiring project.  This would be a very interesting model for schools who are looking to combine these areas in their curriculum. A well-planned programme of work facilitated collaboration between S3 and S5/6 students, and the verification team was very impressed by the inclusion of local languages and dialects from parts of la Francophonie which related to the work of the travel agent partner.

We are delighted to award this submission a SILVER Scottish Languages Employability Award as it fully meets all of the criteria for this level. Congratulations!
