Le Foot et La Francophonie

Le Foot et La Francophonie is a national competition organised by SCILT with combines inter-disciplinary learning in French and Physical Education. Le Foot et La Francophonie aims to inspire BGE pupils to continue with French by connecting the language, and the countries in which it is spoken, to the high-profile environment of professional football. Piloted with four Glasgow schools in 2021-22, SCILT is delighted to extend this project nationwide in session 2022-23 for pupils in S2 and S3.

Please note the 2022-23 competition is now closed.

This section includes the full Le Foot et La Francophonie handbook, as well as appendices which have been extracted for ease of access.

These resources were kindly shared by teachers from Knightswood Secondary School, Lourdes Secondary School, St Roch’s Secondary School and Shawlands Academy, who participated in the 2021-22 pilot phase:

Thoroughly enjoyed the competition, really well organised and the pupils loved it! Bien joué!
It was a great way to engage some of the more difficult groups of pupils and inspire them to pick a language.
It exposed areas that as a department and school we are keen to improve; confidence using target language and ability to work in a team.
French disguised as football!
