Latest from the Languages Leadership Programme

Author: Lynne Jones, SCILT

After a pandemic-induced hiatus, the Languages Leadership Programme (LLP) returned in June 2021. In transferring wholly online, we welcomed the largest ever LLP cohort of participants. In addition, 20 previous participants volunteered to return to the programme, taking on the role of critical friend, to support groups of participants on their LLP journey.

The Languages Leadership Programme comprises three elements:

LLP Core in June – two days of online professional learning and networking

LLP Choice: August to Easter – ongoing reflective journaling supported by critical friends and a menu of online workshops

LLP Recall Day in spring – share your LLP learning journey

Successful completion of those three elements of Masters level professional learning will earn participants GTCS Professional Recognition: Leadership in languages education. The award is valid for five years. It makes you eligible to accredited prior learning to the tune of 20 Masters credits, enabling you to transfer onto Masters in Education (MEd) pathways at the School of Education at the University of Strathclyde.

So what were the takeaways after the first two days together back in June?

‘These two days have been really encouraging and reassuring. Something truly appreciated after these difficult times.’ (LLP participant)

‘Everything, the connections we have made, the discussions we have had. It is nice to be involved in shaping the role.’ (LLP critical friend)

‘Thank you so much for the wonderful presentations. I am feeling inspired and can't wait to get stuck into this course.’ (LLP participant)

‘Fantastic to know we are a team and that I can learn from so many people with experience.’ (LLP critical friend)

Does this sound like the type of professional learning you need?

Applications for the 2022-23 programme will open in spring 2022. This will be accompanied by an information session for interested primary, secondary and special education settings. The session will include the opportunity to hear from current participants, critical friends and other members of the LLP team. You will find out about their experiences of the online learning community and their personal pathways through the programme.
