Dundee-Würzburg Twinning Association

Author: Virginie Bradbury, Dundee

A nursery from the German city of Würzburg has produced a book of children’s stories and illustrations to celebrate the nursery’s 50th anniversary. This book has been translated into the languages of Würzburg’s twin cities and, because Dundee is twinned with Würzburg, copies of the English version of the book will be distributed to all libraries in Dundee, as well as to schools in the Grove Academy cluster.

Grove Academy and its associated primaries selected German as L3 and, thanks to the support of the Dundee-Würzburg Twinning Association, P5-P7 learners from the cluster are creating short stories about Dundee and Scottish culture. These will be compiled into a book to be shared with schools in Würzburg in return.

This project has been welcomed by practitioners who believe it will support the introduction of German into schools. The project reinforces the importance of twinning associations and it should be the start of more projects with Dundee’s other twin cities.
