This article is a summary of a professional enquiry I conducted in my second year of teaching Chinese in Scotland as part of the Hanban programme. I wanted to investigate different, more effective ways of enabling Scottish pupils to recognise and remember Chinese characters. The feedback was positive but there are still more questions to consider.
