As part of the schools screening programme, the Filmhouse in Edinburgh is holding a special screening of Sorda/Deaf. 

Angela's deafness raises concerns during her pregnancy regarding connecting with her daughter. Post-delivery, partner Héctor supports her as she learns to mother in a society lacking adequate accommodations for the hearing-impaired.

A powerful opportunity to explore inclusion, communication and diversity through cinema. This award-winning film has received international acclaim, including major prizes at the Berlin and Málaga Film Festivals.

To book the film, please email schools@filmhouse with the following information:

• Date, time, and title of screening

• Name of school

• Name of lead teacher and mobile number

• Number of pupils and year group

• Number of staff members

• Any access requirements

• Preferred payment method - invoice, by telephone, or by card on arrival

The screening costs £5 per pupil, with teachers/school staff free. Please ensure you have 1 staff member for every 10 pupils.

In a live online conversation on Friday 27 February, Jad Salfiti (Independent journalist at ARTE and in the past among others BBC, Deutsche Well, Al Jazeera English) will speak to the Goethe-Institut about his career and experiences with learning German.

This event is part of the Business Lunch Series by the Goethe-Institut. It will be held in English with a short introduction in German.

Registration for Language World 2026 is now open!

Taking place 13-14 March in Leicestershire, the theme for the 2026 event is Collaboration at the heart of languages education.

The theme is deliberately broad to encourage all language educators – whatever their language or phase of teaching – to come along and join the action, so that we can grow professionally and, over time, inspire future generations to love their languages. 

If you have something you would like to share at the event, submissions are being accepted until 4 November.
