Scottish Learning Festival 2013

Registration is now open for this year’s Scottish Learning Festival (SLF), which takes place on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 September in the SECC, Glasgow.

The theme for 2013 is Raising the bar in Scotland – transforming lives through learning. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of practical approaches, resources and research aimed at improving achievement and attainment for all our learners in Scotland. 

With over 100 sessions including keynotes, round table discussions and seminars, there's something for everyone at this year's SLF.

The following seminars will be of particular interest to language teachers:

25 September:

  • Languages and Literacy: what’s on the third horizon? (Louise Glen, Senior Education Officer, Education Scotland)
  • Gaelic Education 3-18: National Advice on Gaelic Education to Address the Barriers (Joan Esson, HMI, Education Scotland)
  • Targeting the Language: Using L2 as the normal medium of communication in the MFL classroom (Hilary McColl, Consultant)
  • 1+2 One Year On: where are we now and where do we go from here? (Sarah Breslin, Director, Scotland’s National Centre for Languages)
  • Short & Sweet: short films as a route to developing Modern Foreign Languages (Sarah Derrick, Head of Education, Dundee Contemporary Arts)

26 September:

  • Primary/Secondary Transition CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) in Action (Sheila Speirs, Head Teacher, Noble Primary School)
