To celebrate the launch of the Teachers of German in Scotland (TOGS) network, we held a poster competition for children and young people across
Scotland who are learning German or have a German background. The theme of the competition was “Das bedeutet Deutsch für mich/uns!” – “This is what German means to me/us!” – and we invited entrants to share their personal reflections on the German language.
Participants were encouraged to use as much German as they could, depending on their level of learning, and most importantly, to express what inspires them to learn this fascinating language.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took the time to create and submit a poster, and to the teachers who supported and submitted entries on behalf of their pupils.
The posters were truly wonderful – creative, personal, colourful, and full of insight. They reflected the many unique and meaningful ways in which we connect with the languages we learn and love. With such a high standard of entries, choosing a winner in each category was no easy task!
Below, you’ll find the winning entries for each age group (P1–4, P5–7, and S1–3), along with those that received a Highly Commended mention, and hear the video message from German Consul General Christiane Hullmann.
