Hosted by SCILT and Education Scotland on 26 February 2021, this online Knowledge Exchange event welcomed over 70 language professionals from all sectors of the language teaching community, including primary, secondary, Higher Education and community-based organisations. The event aimed to put a spotlight on inspirational practice and reflect on some of the achievements from within the languages community.
Featuring talks and break-out discussions led by various professionals, topics included English as an Additional Language and poetry, bilingualism, parental engagement and family learning, languages and global education, and poverty and languages. Attendees had the opportunity to share, celebrate and highlight the importance of providing all learners with access to a wide range of language and intercultural experiences.
Keynote speaker, Dr Stacey Margarita Johnson, Assistant Director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching in Nashville, Tennessee and Senior Lecturer in Spanish talked through social justice approaches to teaching languages and community action in and through languages education.
The afternoon concluded with plenary speaker, Louise Glen, Senior Education Officer at Education Scotland.
