Learning for Sustainability

Entries for the Words for the World competition held by SCILT in session 2024-25.

Words for the World 2025 Awards

Words for the World was inspired by a quote from the inspirational young Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai, who said ‘We must believe in the power and the strength of our words. Our words can change the world.’picture of the postcard template

Inspired by Malala’s words, Words for the World has always invited students to use their words in a language they speak at home, or are learning, to show how the world can be a better place.

In 2025, we gave participants in the project a new challenge focused on Water.

Exploring the Sustainable Development Goals around Water, we asked pupils to write a postcard to the First Minister of Scotland telling them what needs to be done to protect this valuable resource.

Below you can see some of the submitted work which earned the participants a book token and certificate in appreciation and recognition of their research and hard work.

Schools who want to introduce Learning for Sustainability in the languages class may like to visit our toolkit for ideas.
