Universal Children's Day

Universal Children's Day takes place annually on November 20. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children.  Below are links to resources which can be used to celebrate this event.

  • Global Dimension - discuss and compare the lives of our young people with that of those in other countries. There are many foreign language resources available through the Global Dimension Database, just search by curriculum subject.
  • Worldstories - features a collection of stories from around the world, including retold traditional tales and new short stories in the languages most spoken by UK children (Chinese, French, Spanish, Polish, Urdu, Arabic, German, Persian and many more).
  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) - simple versions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in languages other than English.
  • UNICEF - explore articles and stories on the website, which is also available in French and Spanish.
