‘Science in the Language Class’ is a programme of resources, outreaches and special language days where the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland link their conservation projects around the world or their conservation breeding programmes within their zoos to language learning.
Following the success of a Spanish Day in June,
we are hosting two more Spanish days at Edinburgh Zoo on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th November 2017. There are limited places available and booking is essential on a first come, first served basis. The days are suitable for P6, P7 and S1 students.
South American Spanish Day includes:
- Fun educational session on RZSS South American projects in the wild
- Spanish quiz on animals, numbers, colours and parts of the body
- Guided tour of some of Edinburgh Zoo’s South American & Spanish animals
- One free copy (per class) of RZSS ‘Especies en Peligro’ board game which links to Spanish language learning (worth £80 +VAT).
All the above for £10 per pupil, with 1 adult per 10 children free of charge. Additional adults at standard group booking rates. (This is a discounted rate as 2 x educational sessions would normally cost £14, £7 per session).
Xabier San Isidro, Education Adviser from the Spanish Embassy Education Office, said: “The Spanish Day was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to really engage with the culture and language in completely new surroundings. The day focused on learning about South American and Spanish species that are endangered and the steps we can take to help them, whilst picking up some new Spanish vocabulary along the way. I am thoroughly impressed with how RZSS managed to incorporate an informative Spanish themed day at RZSS Edinburgh Zoo”.
