Primary school teachers across Scotland now have the unique opportunity to get together to learn a language and how to teach it, by studying with The Open University and teaching this new language in their primary classroom as they learn.
The suite of innovative distance learning modules, 'Learning to teach Languages in primary school', is co-produced and co-delivered by Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT). It bears university credits and allows teachers to opt into a professional recognition programme.
The suite is being rolled-out across Scotland, following its recent successful pilot with 51 teachers from 9 local authorities - ranging from Shetland to the Scottish Borders - learning and teaching French or Spanish. In its next presentation starting in October 2018, the course will include the options to learn and teach German or Mandarin.
The course offers schools the chance to successfully implement the Scottish Government’s ‘1+2’ Language Policy, which has the objective that every pupil will have the opportunity to learn two additional languages alongside their mother tongue from primary school onwards.
Please register by Monday 4 June to attend.
Places are free of charge but limited. For more information and to register, please go to the event website.
