Education Scotland will host the Scottish Learning Festival 2013 (SLF) on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 September in the SECC, Glasgow.

SLF is Scotland's leading educational event that aims to inspire and transform learning and teaching to help improve life chances of all young people.

The theme of SLF 2013 is Raising the bar in Scotland – transforming lives through learning. The festival is designed to inspire practitioners and give them a range of opportunities for them to develop their knowledge, skills and expertise. We hope practitioners will leave the event better able to ensure they plan and deliver learning experiences which appropriately challenge and engage their learners and which support learners to achieve their potential.

SLF is free for everyone to attend and gives delegates access to a programme of professional development seminars hosted by practitioners and young people from across Scotland. It also incorporates the largest education exhibition in Scotland with over 120 organisations showcasing their resources.

Education Scotland is looking forward to hosting this year's keynotes to be delivered by:

  • Michael Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning
  • Prof Andy Hargreaves, Thomas Moore Brennan Chair in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College
  • Dr Avis Glaze, international leader in the field of education
  • Dr Pasi Sahlberg, Director General, Centre for Mobility and Cooperation.

Speaking about SLF 2013, Dr Bill Maxwell, Chief Executive of Education Scotland says, "SLF should be a key date in the diary for all those interested in improving education. It is a platform for sharing information, highlighting innovation and showcasing a huge range of best practice. As well a providing an opportunity to hear directly from the Cabinet Secretary about his ambitions for Scottish education it will also allow delegates to engage with some of the most influential international thinkers in education."

SLF has a broad focus covering learning in schools, community learning, health, social work and the voluntary sector. It has something of interest for everyone who contributes to the learning and development of Scotland’s children and young people.

The SLF 2013 conference programme and registration will be available on the SLF area of the Education Scotland website at the end of May 2013.
