Reflecting on the Teaching of Chinese Language and Culture in Scottish Schools

Venue: Online

Event Date: 14/09/2022 10:00 - 11:30

This online research presentation and group discussion focuses on the challenges and opportunities faced by teachers of Mandarin when teaching Chinese language and culture within Scottish schools.

Drawing upon his own research, and taking on perspectives from Scottish teachers, visiting teachers from China, and pupils in primary settings, guest speaker Dr David Roxburgh invites attendees to consider how different experiences promote culture in different ways and to reflect upon what this might mean for teaching practice.

Dr Roxburgh is Senior Teaching Fellow, Director of Global Engagement, Erasmus Co-ordinator (School of Education), and Faculty Director for Student Mobility (China/South Korea) at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

This is the first in a series of Professional Learning and Networking sessions for 2022-23, offered by the Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools.
