Event Date: 24/11/2022 17:00 - 19:00

You are invited to this free, hybrid event at Glasgow Women’s Library. It will feature four poets from different generations who write in the Scots language. They will read samples of their work and discuss the links between womanhood, power and the use of the Scots language:

  • Schoolgirl Oriana Strahan, who won the Words of the World poetry competition in the S1-S3 category with her poem about witch trials in Scotland;
  • Len Pennie, a recent university graduate of Languages, who rose to fame with her Scots word of the day poems shared with over 139,000 followers on social media and who received much praise for her support of linguistic diversity, way beyond the UK;
  • distinguished Scottish author, musician, director and actress Gerda Stevenson, who has written works in Scots, Gaelic and English, and whose outstanding poetry collection Quines is a 'tribute to women of Scotland';
  • and the Scottish Book Trust’s Scots New Writers Award winner Samantha Dooey-Miles, who will also facilitate the event.

The event is supported by the Open University in Scotland, Education Scotland and the Scottish Book Trust, three organisations promoting the learning and use of the Scots language in all walks of life.
