The Lantern Festival, also called Yuan Xiao Festival (元宵节) is a traditional Chinese festival commemorated every 15th day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar. It falls on 5 February in 2023, and it signifies the last day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. Come along to celebrate this special day with us with a fun afternoon of Chinese arts and cultural activities for families and friends.
Activities include:
- Lantern Making Workshop
- Calligraphy Writing
- Get a free calligraphy tattoo
- Chinese craft fair
- Traditional Chinese instrument performances
- Ancient Chinese costume demonstration
This event is a joint celebration between Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre, Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow, and Merchant Square and is free to attend - just drop in!
