Head teachers, teachers and local authority education staff are invited to take part in this webinar focusing on the use of home languages for home and school work with English as an Additional Language children.
This topic is even more important under the current circumstances when the majority of children in England are learning at home and parents have support needs in relation to helping their children learn in the best possible way.
Some parents may struggle, but at homes where more than one language is used the challenges have additional layers that need considering.
There is no one right answer, but there are different things that can be done and need to be considered. In this webinar Dr Olga Cara will offer her thoughts as a researcher, as a parent and as a local primary school governor.
Areas of focus will include:
- How parents can help their children with English language development and learning, but also not forget about their home languages
- Whether parents have to do all home learning only using English
- How children can be supported using home languages
- How schools can communicate and effectively support families who have English as an Additional Language
