Scotland’s Languages Landscape: The ‘Rights’ Approach

Hosted by SCILT, in partnership with Education Scotland, this online knowledge exchange event will provide an opportunity to explore how we amplify, support and further the rights of Scotland’s youth: their right to retain, use and learn spoken and signed languages in their families, communities, schools and beyond. 

The event will feature inspirational talks and break-out discussions led by various professionals. Attendees will have the opportunity to share, celebrate and highlight the importance of valuing language skills and ensuring the rights of all children and young people to a language rich curriculum.

Participants will be welcomed by Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, followed by keynote speaker Bernardette Holmes MBE, Campaign Director of Speak to the Future, a national campaign to advance language capability in the UK

The event is open to local authority representatives, teachers and the wider languages community.
