Calling all practitioners working within early level. Would you like to know more about language learning and teaching in the Early Years? Why don’t you come along and join us at SCILT’s Languages in the Early Years Show & Tell online event.

We will have four guest presenters, all currently working within and around Early Years, who will share the ways in which they are incorporating languages within an Early Years context:

  • French with Camembear and BSL
Nicola Caira - Teacher, Coylton Primary and ELC, South Ayrshire
Nicola will share the ways in which she uses Camembear as a resource to support French learning and teaching. She will also discuss how she has introduced BSL to young learners at Coylton.

  • Gaelic in the Early Years
Nickie Davidson - Teacher, Coylton Primary and ELC & Gaelic Support Officer, South Ayrshire
This presentation will focus on the Brochan pack which was developed to aid the teaching of Gaelic learning skills to young people at Early Level, although the lessons and content can be adapted for use in any class. Primarily the lessons use active learning with a variety of games and activities to explore Gaelic language and to embed the language learning in a fun way.

  • Teaching French through IDL
Carole Howie - Class teacher, Bilston Primary School, Midlothian
Carole will be discussing how she has been using IDL contexts to teach French to her P1/2 class as a way of making it more relevant to the learners and making sure French is kept as a regular part of the timetabled learning.

  • Resources to develop family learning and play pedagogy
Gwen McCrossan - 1+2 Development Officer, Argyll and Bute
Gwen McCrossan will present on all the Early Years resources created by the Northern Alliance. These have been created with the aim to develop family learning and play pedagogy within languages teaching at early level.

This event is free and open to all educators who are working or have an interest in language learning within an Early Years context.

The workshop will take place on Microsoft Teams and will not be recorded.
